Our Philosophy - Outside School Hours Care
Our Vision
Woodlands and Lonsdale House Outside School Hours Care caters for the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) and School Holiday Program for children from 4-12 years of age. The programs were established in January 1999 to meet the growing needs for quality care and education on the Bellarine Peninsula and continue to provide quality care and education to this day.
Our Woodlands and Lonsdale House Outside School Hours Care - Outside School Hours Care and School Holiday Curriculum (OSHC Program), we believe that childhood is a unique time of life, which should be celebrated and valued as children grow, learn and develop into our leaders of the future. We also recognise that this is a time where the foundations are laid for future wellbeing, learning, communication, connections to the community and building confidence in their own identities. We acknowledge that the rights of the child are paramount (UN Convention Nov 20th 1989), and recognise and appreciate that families are the first and most influential teachers and role models in a child’s life. We facilitate open communication with families and encourage sharing of information about their beliefs, culture, interests, community experiences and expectations. We work collaboratively to support each child to experience a positive sense of belonging.
At Woodlands and Lonsdale House, we encourage children to continue to build a strong sense of self. Our OSHC educators provide a stimulating curriculum to facilitate peer social interactions, interest-based learning, respecting peers, friends and educators within that environment and continued participation in the local and broader communities. We understand each child has their own learning style and individual needs that develop at different rates. Woodlands and Lonsdale House Outside School Hours Care cater to children’s individual learning styles and provide a safe and secure learning environment for them to thrive.
Our educators are guided by The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority, My Time Our Place and the Early Years Learning Framework which provides a foundation for what we value and believe. The Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) is also a crucial component of educator’s Pedagogy as the learning outcomes derived for children are a fundamental aspect of the educational curriculum. The framework sets the highest expectations for every child and it identifies five learning and development outcomes for all children. This curriculum caters for children up to eight years of age. My Time Our Place is a Framework not a curriculum and supports Educators in providing a nationally recognised framework. The VEYLDF and My Time My Place is supported by the National Quality Standards Framework which is governed by the Education and Care Services National Law (‘National Law’) 2010 and Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011.
